Letter to the Birthday Girl

Elvira,
I'm so sorry I can't be with you to wish you happy birthday and give you kisses and hugs on your special day. I'm so sorry you have to spend another birthday not knowing what a birthday should be. I had hoped we would be there today to bring you cake and presents, but we just couldn't get there in time. You probably won't even notice the lack of celebration or the lack of attention. To you it will be just another day in the orphanage. But I notice. I care. We all prayed for you tonight before bed, that you would have a joyful day and feel loved and special. I know that God sees you and has you in His hand, that He remembers your birthday. And I pray that you would be surrounded by His love, that you would feel your worth. I promise that when we visit you later this month, we'll bring you the cake and presents that you missed and try to make up for some of the kisses and hugs you've missed.

Love,
The woman who wants to be your mommy

  2. Oh how I struggle with this same feeling! We are 1/2 way through our process and our son's birthday is approaching and we won't be there with him. To me it just means a blow out party when we get him home! Feel free to reach out anytime.

  4. L spent her 3rd birthday in the orphanage. We were there, but it was still sad. We had court two days before and I was really hoping the wait would be waived, so she'd be ours on her birthday. Instead, we just wished her a happy birthday and gave her a toy phone.

I hope this comment from "janie" isn't what I think it is. Hugs, if so.

  8. Hi Marj! I hear you are traveling!! So excited for you and I'm very impressed by how fast you've completed everything! We are adopting Amanda from the same orphanage that your little girl is in. Oh gosh, how I wish I was on your plane!!! If you see her, and are able to speak to her, could you tell her that her mommy is working as hard as she can to come get her??
P.S. I love that you have young kids like us!! We have three boys, Kyle just turned 4 in October, Brandon turned 3 on the 4th, and Seth is 16 months! I knew we couldn't be the only "crazy" ones!! ;) God bless you Marj!

  9. Lauren, they're in the same region, but I have not seen Amanda at Elvira's orphanage. There's another one right next door though, so we could be very near. I pray you get to meet her soon. She's adorable! And yes, it's nice to know I'm not the only 'crazy' one! ;-)
